Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about summer camp!

Are there any discounts?

  • Registrations received by April 9 qualify for a $20 early bird discount.
  • If two or more campers register from the same family, a family discount of $20 applies to the second and additional children.  Registrations must be mailed in the same envelope to qualify.
  • NEW!!! EARN A FREE WEEK BY THE EARLY BIRD DEADLINE!! A camper who recruits three other campers (for any session) who have not been to Camps with Meaning before, will have their registration fee returned.  All four registrations must be mailed in the same envelope with a note listing the camper who qualifies!

What do we mean by “sessions”?
Each camp is divided into sessions – such as PreJunior, Junior, Boys/Girls Extreme Adventure, Youth, Junior High, Junior Youth, etc.

The "Early Bird Registration Deadline" has past. Can I still register my child for camp?
Yes, that date is simply the cut-off for early bird pricing. We are happy to register campers in sessions that still have space.

Can camp fees be paid by credit card?
Yes, by placing the credit card number, expiry date and card holder’s name on a separate piece of paper and sending it along with the camper registration form.

Can I request a cabin mate?
Because camp is a place to “make new friends and keep the old”, campers may request only ONE child as a cabin mate.  This child must be of the same age or grade.  Please understand that we will try to keep cabin requests together, however there are circumstances (ie. “chain requests which are an attempt to keep all friends together) where this is not always possible. Parents will be notified two weeks prior to camp if the request cannot be granted.

Is there transportation available to camp?
An enjoyable bus ride is available to camp.  Note: our buses are not wheelchair accessible.  See registration form for rates. Bus pickup and drop off is at the Camps with Meaning Office, 600 Shaftesbury, south parking lot, as well as at other locations listed on the registration form. There is daily transportation for the Day Camp program.

Do you accommodate campers with special needs?
Yes! Our special needs program provides support for children and youth who need help to have a successful week.  If your child has a disability please provide details with registration or call us.  Apply early to hold your spot.  Our trained staff will contact each family, starting in May, to confirm spots and help us prepare adaptive programming and care. A conversation or interview will be requested.  Cheques received will not be cashed until each camper is assured a space.

Why was my registration delayed or returned?
We do not process incomplete registrations, nor do we hold spots for them.  Avoid delays by checking for the following common errors:  missing signatures, blanks left unfilled, discounts not applied.

Will there be more information coming?
You  bet! A camper acceptance letter will be sent after the registration is received, covering what to bring to camp, transportation details, how to prepare your camper.

May I visit my camper?
We do not allow parental visits, as the camper growth experience involves independence.  However, we would love to pass along letters or e mails to your child. Please send those e-mails to camps@mennochurch.mb.ca

What if we have to cancel?
A 75% refund of session and transportation fees is available up to 14 days before camp.  After that, no refund is available except for certified medical or family emergencies.  No refunds are issued for disciplinary dismissals.

Can I register my camper for more than one session?
Yes. The second registration will only be processed after the early bird deadline to ensure fairness to all applicants.  Please send a separate cheque and registration form marked “additional week request”.

How will the new border regulations affect campers at camp Moose Lake?
As in the past, Camp Moose Lake campers who require emergency medical treatment will be sent by ambulance to the hospital at Roseau, Minnesota.  Manitoba Health covers services provided there.  Due to the new border crossing regulations, the following documentation will be required to cross the border. This documentation must be presented at registration (or at the bus) or campers will not be allowed to attend:

  • Campers 15 years of age or under: original or copy of birth certificate or other proof of citizenship.
  • Campers 16-18 years of age: passport or secure ID.
  • Note: Parents will be asked to sign both a waiver and a medical form which authorizes camp staff to accompany children over the border.

Partnership Opportunity?
Our rates reflect only part of our operational costs. We invite your financial support. To receive a tax receipt, donations must be made with a separate cheque. Make cheques out to “Mennonite Church Manitoba.” You may designate these for “camper bursaries” or “general program support.”

Are there other ways we can help during the summer program?
Yes! Camp is run by some paid camp staff, but also many volunteers. We can use help in a variety of different areas: kitchen help, maintenance, nurses, camp pastors etc. We are sometimes able to accommodate families during specific weeks at camp. The easiest way to find out, is to give our office a call and see where we might still be needing help!
