Update for summer camp 2020!

We are working on Day Camp programming. See the Frequently Asked Questions below for more info.

Having made the decision to cancel our regularly scheduled programming, we are now moving forward with shaping a summer program that is compliant with the restrictions and safety concerns we are all living with.

Of top priority is creating a sense of community and connection among our summer staff and among our camper families and friends. So we are currently looking at two parts to the summer.

One part will be shaped as modified staff training weeks, gathering in smaller numbers at Camp Assiniboia. We have also been gathering regularly using Zoom to meet and check-in and laugh and sing and brainstorm together.

The second part will be a modified day camp program. We are looking at which activities are safe to do within the physical distancing and sanitization requirements, and what number of campers and staff are needed and allowed to make this work well.

Exact dates and schedules are close to being announced. There will be some one-day camps in various locations throughout July, and our week-long day camps are being planned for August. Keep an eye out for announcements and registration opening soon.

Thank you for your prayers and your patience!

Camps with Meaning Response to COVID-19: Information and Updates

Over the last few months we’ve been watching carefully as the Province of Manitoba has moved through the initial stages of pandemic response to the phased plan for reopening services in Manitoba.  It has become clear that reopening overnight camps will not be part of either phase 1 or 2 of that plan.

It’s with this in mind that we are announcing the cancellation of our regular overnight programs for the summer at both Camp Assiniboia and Camp Koinonia.  We are currently looking at other program options and events this summer so stay tuned for further announcements!

Frequently Asked Questions

Will there be day camp?

Yes! We are planning for some limited weeks of day camp August, as well as some one-day camp events in July.

What are the dates for day camp?

We are hoping to announce those dates and open registration  the week of July 22.

Will those who have registered for camp already receive a refund?

Yes.  Refunds are being processed right now. The refund will be for the amount of your registration less $25 to cover costs incurred by the registration process.  All refunds will be issued by cheque and sent to the home address indicated on your registration forms.  If you would like us to send your cheque to a different address please let us know.

Can I get the $25 fee waived?

Absolutely!  We are aware that many families are living on reduced incomes because of COVID-19, so if you require a refund in the full amount please send an email to camps@mennochurch.mb.ca ; we’d be happy to oblige!  In this email, be sure to include the name of the camper, and the week and camp that they are registered for.

Can I donate my camp fees instead of getting a refund?

Yes you can.  Camps with Meaning relies on revenue from rental groups, summer camp registration fees and donations from Mennonite Church Manitoba congregations and private donors.  Due to COVID-19, our camps have been closed since March and we have lost a significant portion of our yearly revenue.  This, compounded with the closing of our overnight summer program puts us under significant financial strain.  Any contributions would be most welcome and you will receive a tax deductible receipt.

Do you have any planned programming for ADV campers?

We have not forgotten you! There is a lot of new planning going on, but look for invitations to gather online this summer and in person as soon as we are able to do that safely. Some of our ideas include sending postcards, creating videos with activities and songs and skits from our staff, and a gathering of some kind as soon as it is safe to do so.
