Do you like growing things? Caring for animals? Making food and crafts from scratch? Farm Camp at Camp Assiniboia is an active way to learn about gardening and nature, care for farm animals and learn how to cook food together. Activities last summer included cheese-making, seed starting, horseback riding and hay rides! We focus on kid-friendly animals and vegetables that allow campers to learn a bit about farming, get their hands dirty and connect with God’s creation. As the number of spots in the program is limited, campers form strong relationships with the other children in Farm Camp. The Farm Camp Program is fully integrated with the rest of the camp during meals, Bible, recreation and fireside. This means that campers get to enjoy the new farm programming without missing out on camp classics like the ropes course, the swimming pool or zany rec games.

Last year, Camp Assiniboia launched its first farm program. We raised two pigs, 30 meat chickens and had a large garden. Campers were involved in almost every aspect of the farm. They helped feed the animals, manage the garden and were able to do farm chores in the morning if so desired. The food grown was used in the kitchen – campers were excited to harvest lettuce in the morning and eat it at lunch! The Assiniboia Farm was enjoyed by campers, staff and visitors so we look forward to new adventures on the farm this year!
